Christian "Faith" and Muslims "Works" | ||

It has become a fashion by many evangelical Christians and the like to take the verses of the Holy Quran out of context and distort or misrepresent their meanings. Christian priests and reverends or Jewish Rabbis spend years and years in the seminaries and religious schools to get degrees in theology before they are ordained as ministers or what have you so that they are permitted to give a sermon in their congregations. To speak about what the Holy Quran says on a certain topic also requires certain depth of knowledge. However, some Christian or Jewish leaders just pick up the book and speak rapidly expressing their views on Islam or the Holy Quran. All they have to do is ask a Muslim scholar, some one who knows. The issue of faith and works comes up over and over again. We are told by these evangelists that in Christianity, your faith that Jesus is son of God and that he died to expiate you from your sins is necessary and sufficient condition for your salvation. So believe in it and you are saved with inheritance of the kingdom of God. The deeds still have significance, but only in this life. Your deeds will not receive any extra reward or punishment in the afterlife. But when they compare it with Islam, they only give a partial quotation from the Quran to say that in Islam, salvation depends on your deeds alone. The correct answer, however is that it is the Islamic Faith, righteous deeds of each individual and the Mercy of God which will give you paradise by the will of God. God of Islam is the God of every one, including Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad. According to the Holy Quran, associating other gods with the One God is an unforgivable sin. All other sins are forgivable. This is very close to Islamic Faith alone notion of salvation, since the Merciful God does allow repentance. Islam promotes the idea of doing good to please Him for rewards in this life and the Hereafter. It also warns people about committing evil deeds, which may lead one to Hellfire unless they repent.
It should be noted that not all Christians believe in Faith alone for salvation. The entire Chapter 2 of the Book of James puts a great emphasis on faith and works. "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead." (The Bible, James, 2:26)If any Christian scholar thinks that I have misrepresented Christian belief according to his or her sect, let us know and we will apologize/amend/add to this accordingly. We honor and respect Abraham, Moses, Jesus as noble messengers of God. May peace and blessings be on all of His prophets. Questions For Further Study? 1.
